Proton and Modern Radiation Therapy for Treatment of Brain and Other Solid Tumors

This lecture will address application of proton beam therapy and other advanced radiation oncology technologies in treatment of both CNS and non-CNS tumors in children and young people; the focus of advanced radiotherapy is improvement in disease-related outcomes as well as toxicity reduction and survivorship advancement, and each of which will be specifically addressed.

Learning objectives

  1. Review the differences between proton therapy and x-ray therapy.
  2. Discuss the importance of multidisciplinary approach to use of advanced radiotherapy techniques.
  3. Review the impact of radiotherapy on survivorship, and methods of survivorship improvement through reduced radiation exposure.
