Child Dependent on Respiratory Technology
The speaker will review the indications for chronic mechanical ventilation outside of the hospital, as well as the medical, social, environmental and programmatic requirements necessary to support these children and their families. The speaker will examine capabilities of some of the newer ventilators made for home care. He will also discuss the rationale behind the choice of some of the equipment being used. He will review the roles of various personnel involved in the care of the ventilator dependent child along the continuum from hospital to home, and he will discuss various interventions that can be used to treat ventilator-dependent children in the home before rehospitalization is necessary.
