Background

Naomi Brown, MD, is a pediatric sports medicine specialist and a graduate of Tufts University and Tufts University School of Medicine, both in Boston, MA. She completed her pediatrics residency at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP), followed by a specialized fellowship in sports medicine at Boston Children’s Hospital.

Before joining CHOP’s Division of Orthopaedic Surgery in 2013, Dr. Brown worked in the Department of Emergency Medicine at Nemours/A.I. DuPont Hospital for Children, Wilmington, DE. It was there she discovered her interest in sports medicine and pursued further training at Boston Children’s in the care sports medicine.

In Boston, Dr. Brown worked with athletes of all ages and backgrounds, including professional dancers and collegiate athletes. She treated athletes during high school and Division I games, as well as in athletic training rooms and at community events.

Today, Dr. Brown works at CHOP’s Philadelphia Campus and CHOP Care Network locations in Chalfont, PA and King of Prussia, PA. She has specialized training in the use of ultrasound medicine in the office setting, which can be a useful adjunct to diagnose and treat acute and chronic injuries. She is a clinical assistant professor of Pediatrics at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania. She is very involved with both CHOP and Penn’s Primary Care Sports Medicine Fellowship programs, and is responsible for training those fellows as well as CHOP’s pediatric residents and medical students in sports medicine.

“I enjoy taking care of patients with sports-related injuries,” she says. “My specific interests include sports injury prevention, overuse injuries, bone stress injuries, pain management,  hypermobility, and general non-operative orthopaedic conditions.”

Dr. Brown is certified by the American Board of Pediatrics and has her certificate in added qualifications in sports medicine (CAQSM).  She is active in orthopaedic and sports medicine research, and has written and presented numerous papers about her research. She is a member of the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) Council on Sports Medicine and Fitness as well as Pediatric Research in Sports Medicine (PRiSM) and the American Medical Society for Sports Medicine.

Dr. Brown also reviews articles for several journals including The Journal of Pediatrics and Pediatric Emergency Care. She lectures extensively on a variety of sports injuries, including dance injuries, overuse injuries, hypermobility and the athlete and concussion.
