Judith Doell, RN, MSN, CRNP

As a nurse practitioner, my role is to provide clinical and supportive care to pediatric neuro-oncology patients and families in the acute care setting. I take on the challenge of coordination of care for neuro-oncology patients in hopes that I can help bring a sense of normalcy back to their lives. I actively share in the role of educating patients and families about their child’s disease, treatment and side effects of treatment. I provide education and am available as a resource for the nursing staff and other front line clinicians. The nurse practitioners at CHOP are an integral part of the medical and nursing teams and provide consistency for patients and families.

My specialty is neuro-oncology, so I primarily work with children with brain tumors and other central nervous system tumors. I began here at CHOP in the role of Clinical Nurse Specialist in the oncology clinic and after three years transitioned to a nurse practitioner role in the outpatient setting. I now practice in the inpatient setting, caring for in-patients during acute phases of their disease and treatment. My interests include improvements in patient safety, comfort along the disease spectrum.

During the time that I have worked in pediatric oncology, I have been most impressed by the hopeful spirit of pediatric oncology patients. The sheer determination and optimism I see, is an inspiration. Our patients live in the moment and it is a constant reminder to value every day.
