Procedure for Patients Requiring Escort from Entry Point at University City Only

Applies to the Following Patients

  • COVID positive/not cleared
  • COVID exposed
  • COVID unknown tracheostomy and ventilator dependent patients during first visit to clinic

Process

  1. Patient is identified by Travel/Exposure Epic navigator and escalated within clinical division.
  2. Clinical provider will identify that an in-person visit is necessary.
  3. Contact the escort line at (215) 590-7732 at least 48 hours in advance (M-F 8 a.m.-4 p.m.)
    1. Leave patient name, appointment date and time.
    2. Escort MA availability must be confirmed before proceeding.
    3. First appointment for escort must be after 7:45 a.m.
  4. The clinical provider’s team is responsible for notifying the family expect a call from the MA team the day prior to the appointment with further details. Provide the Pre-Arrival Guide for Patient and Caregiver.
  5. The escort MA team contacts the family to discuss where to park and/or where to meet and exchange contact information to connect at arrival.
  6. On the appointment day, the patient and caregiver will arrive to the designated area (parking on Wood A Level, Buerger P1 Garage, or Wood/Buerger Building main entrance meeting area) as previously arranged. The escort MA will meet them here wearing appropriate PPE.
  7. The caregiver and the patient will be provided a surgical mask and escorted to the designated clinic room and placed in a single patient room with the door closed.
  8. The escort MA will contact the scheduling Patient Service Representative (PSR) to arrive the patient remotely.
  9. Handoff to the division specific clinic MA will be performed.
    1. Triage will be in the room; not in the assessment room.
      MA will obtain vitals, height/weight, and confirm allergies.
    2. The appropriate care will be provided by the staff wearing modified expanded PPE.
  10. Following the visit, the escort MA will accompany the patient and caregiver back to the parking garage or main entrance.
    The escort is not available to escort between appointments.
  11. The clinic MA will clean the room per routine care.
  12. Patients who have multiple visits on a given day can transport themselves between clinics and should be instructed to not utilize aerosol generating procedures (suctioning) in public areas unless emergent.
