PPE Recommendations and Isolation

  • Practice consistent hand hygiene, and do not touch your mask/face
  • Current practices are based on expert consensus, evidence, and learnings over the past 16 weeks
  • Use of correct PPE and HH have decreased concerning work-related exposures
Resuscitation and other AGP Procedures

AGP
  • Expanded precautions are required
  • N95 or PAPR + eye protection + gown + gloves
  • PAPRs are preferred for prolonged care of patients with AGP
Pts with Exposure,
Known COVID +, No AGP
  • Modified Expanded required
    • Surgical Mask + Eye protection + gloves + gown
  • Document Modified Expanded Precautions in EPIC
Pts with Suspected COVID
i.e. Symptomatic (fever, resp symptoms, GI, etc)
  • Modified Expanded required
    • Surgical Mask + Eye protection + gloves + gown
  • Document Modified Expanded Precautions in EPIC
Pts unlikely to have COVID
(asymptotic, no exposure, screening test only)
  • Standard Precautions
    • Surgical Mask + gloves + Eye protection in ED only (floors Mask + gloves is standard precautions)
  • NO Sign, NO Isolation documented in EPIC
 
COVID NEGATIVE with continued respiratory/fever Symptoms
  • ED Modified Droplet + Contact Precautions
    • Surgical Mask + gloves
  • Document Droplet + Contact precautions in EPIC
 

Additional Measures Implemented to Decrease Transmission

  • All patients and families wear masks
  • Exam room doors are closed, patients/families should wear masks when staff is in the room
  • For infants during transport, tented blankets are placed over the child’s head
  • Patients with AGP are placed in negative pressure rooms as available
  • Educating our ED team members to stay at home if ill, talk with leadership/CTC if testing is indicated
  • Isolation signs on the patient doors
