Criteria for Testing Asymptomatic Exposed Patients
Assess timeline of exposure to COVID Positive Patient
- Patients are considered infectious 48 hrs prior to onset of symptoms
- Patients with no symptoms are considered infectious 48 hrs prior to positive test result
Exposure Definition
- Full Exposure Definition with Examples
- Prolonged (> 15 minutes), close (< 6 feet) contact with a person who is COVID-positive or
- Spent 15 cumulative minutes within 6 ft of a symptomatic or pre-symptomatic person who is COVID-positive
Exceptions to Testing Asymptomatic, Exposed Patients
- Test is required by Dept of Public Health, school, employer or other authority for post-exposure contract tracing
- Patient scheduled for AGP within the next 72 hrs
- Pre-Operative Screening
Timing of the Test
- Asymptomatic patients meeting testing criteria should be tested 5-7 days after exposure
- Schedule a future covid test
If patient does not meet above exception criteria, testing is NOT recommended.
If there was an exposure, follow self-isolation procedure for 14 days after exposure with symptom monitoring.
