Criteria for Testing Asymptomatic Exposed Patients

Assess timeline of exposure to COVID Positive Patient

  • Patients are considered infectious 48 hrs prior to onset of symptoms
  • Patients with no symptoms are considered infectious 48 hrs prior to positive test result

Exposure Definition

  • Full Exposure Definition with Examples
  • Prolonged (> 15 minutes), close (< 6 feet) contact with a person who is COVID-positive or
  • Spent 15 cumulative minutes within 6 ft of a symptomatic or pre-symptomatic person who is COVID-positive

Exceptions to Testing Asymptomatic, Exposed Patients

  • Test is required by Dept of Public Health, school, employer or other authority for post-exposure contract tracing
  • Patient scheduled for AGP within the next 72 hrs
  • Pre-Operative Screening

Timing of the Test

 

If patient does not meet above exception criteria, testing is NOT recommended.

If there was an exposure, follow self-isolation procedure for 14 days after exposure with symptom monitoring.
